Frequently Asked Questions
What does "Skip First Page" do exactly?
If you have a cover or title page, you usually don't want a number printed on it. By checking this option, the tool will completely ignore the first page of the PDF. The second page will then be stamped with "1" (or whatever you set your starting number to be). Total page calculations ("1 of X") will also automatically adjust to reflect the skipped page.
How do I change the starting number?
In the "Page Range" tab, simply change the "Start Numbering At" input. This is useful if you are numbering a PDF that is part of a larger multi-volume document (for example, if this PDF is Part 2, you might want to start numbering at page 50).
Is my document uploaded to a server?
No. All processing is done locally in your browser using JavaScript (PDF-lib.js). Your document never leaves your device, making this tool completely secure for confidential, legal, and private files.
Why isn't the number showing up?
This can occasionally happen if your PDF consists entirely of a full-bleed scanned image that has zero margins. Because the page number is drawn underneath or directly on the very edge, the scan image might obscure it. Try increasing the "Page Margin" in the Typography tab to push the number further into the page.
